Summer Breeze (album)

More research for my work-in-progress: Today looking up copyright information for “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts. Their version topped the charts in 1972. Currently Jason Mraz has a cover. It’s a beautiful song. Soft, mellow, dreamy rock.

Here are some of the lyrics I’d like to use:

“See the curtains hangin’ in the window, in the evenin’ on a Friday night.
A little light a-shinin’ through the window, lets me know everything is alright.
 . .
See the smile a-waitin’ in the kitchen, food cookin’ and the plates for two.
See the arms that reach out to hold me, in the evening when the day is through.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
”

As much as I loved the song back in-the-day, I didn’t know much about Seals and Crofts. Turns out they are from the part of Texas my dad was from. One of their dads worked in the oilfields, as did my dad in his younger years. I spent many a summer in those parts, growing up. Jimmy Seals now has a coffee plantation in Costa Rica, and a home near Nashville.

More coolness, in the small-world sort of way. Jason Mraz lives in San Diego county, my home area. I remember seeing posters around UCSD back in 2002, when he was up-and-coming and I was a 30-year senior, for concerts he did at the Ché Cafe coffee-house. Can’t forget a name like Mraz.
